According to the Canadian Chiropractic Association, back pain is the cause of 40% of work absences. It’s estimated that up to 80% of Canadians will experience back pain at some point in their lives. Back pain is common, and it’s debilitating and isolating – whether pain is chronic or the occasional flare-up, it makes us cancel plans for activities we enjoy with the people we love. There are many possible causes for back pain, and just as many treatments and solutions. Experts agree that back pain can be treated by a combination of rest and gentle movement, but when you’re in pain it’s difficult to know how to help yourself as you wait for an appointment with your chiropractor, physiotherapist, osteopath, or massage therapist.
Joanne is a Certified Yoga Therapist who has successfully worked with hundreds of students and clients with back pain. In this 2.5-hour workshop, she will teach you about anatomy and physiology, some of the more common causes of back pain, and how back pain affects other parts of your body. You’ll be taught strategies to relieve pain, and learn how to safely build core stability and mobility so you can move with more ease and get back to doing what you love.
This workshop is suitable for most fitness levels and is safe for people who have had joint replacement surgery. Time will be spent sitting in a chair, and we’ll be moving both on the floor and standing up. Please bring a yoga mat and 2-3 blankets.
You’ll receive a handout with information and space for your notes. Workshop participants receive a special rate for two zoom yoga therapy sessions for $120 ($190 value); sessions must be booked within two weeks of the workshop and take place before Dec 31, 2022.
This workshop may not be appropriate if you’re currently experiencing severe pain. If you’re unsure of your ability to participate, or have questions, please email Joanne (use link below)
